“Pursuit of knowledge as in trying to understand the riddles of ‘Nature’ by scientific research is one of the greatest pleasures that one can experience in life. It is a journey without an end because every finding, no matter how small, further fuels our intellect to learn more. It also requires commitment, dedication and sustained engagement.

Scientific exploration has parallels to understanding different cultures. Today, more than ever, the Muslim world and the West are at odds with each other. Historically, the West and the Muslim world have shared a rich common history in the sciences. Therefore, scientific collaboration between different cultures and nations in the ‘Twin Institutes’ as proposed by ‘The Science Bridge’ provide us with a unique opportunity to build trust and better understanding with mutual respect for each other. It is my hope that the scientific community, visionary philanthropists, private sectors as well as governments will support ‘The Science Bridge’ initiative for the well-being of humanity.”

Mazahir T. Hasan graduated with a B.A. in Chemistry and Biology from Boston University and completed his Ph.D. in Biochemistry at Dartmouth College. He did postdoctoral research training with Nobel Laureate, Susumu Tonegawa, at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Later, he worked as a Group Leader at the Max Planck Institute for Medical Research in Heidelberg and NeuroCure Cluster of Excellence, Charité-Universitätsmedizin in Berlin. Currently, he is an Ikerbasque Professor at the Achucarro Basque Center for Neuroscience in Bilbao, Spain. He is a full member of the European Dana Alliance for the Brain (EDAB), which facilitates their members, throughout the year, in communicating knowledge of brain research at public events. His research work focuses on the memory circuits and the Alzheimer’s disease.
