Matthew E. Larkum received his B.A. in Physiology at the University of Sydney and his Ph.D. at the University of Bern, Switzerland. After completing his postdoctoral research training with a Nobel Laureate, Bert Sakmann, at the Max Planck Institute in Heidelberg, he became a Professor at the Institute for Physiology of the University of Bern. In 2011, he became a Professor at the Humboldt University in Berlin and head a lab at the Charité-Universitätsmedizin, NeuroCure Cluster of Excellence. His research interest is to understand how dendritic compartments integrate sensory signals in neurons and to reveal the mechanisms of feed-forward/feedback interactions in the cortical network.
