“We neuroscientist are devoted to the fascinating task of unraveling brain mechanisms underlying learning and memory processes, as well as the how brain states generate our feelings, aims, and achievements. This is certainly not the job for a single generation or country. We will need the joint efforts of many people and the contribution of as much countries as possible before we will be able of understanding brain functioning. In this regard, joint efforts from Eastern and Western countries will be extremely important because of their complementary philosophical points of view. In the same way, ‘The Science Bridge’ proposes an engaging approach to create ‘Twin Institutes’, where researchers from different cultures, religions, and nationalities could approach together the understanding of the brain could represent a milestone in this types of study. Fur sure, the XXI century will be the century in which humans will be able of understanding their own brains, but this achievement will only be possible with the joint contribution of people from all over the world.”
José M. Delgado-García graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Seville (Spain), where he also obtained his Ph.D. He did his postdoctoral training at the Iowa University and the NYU Medical Center. In 1978 he founded the Neuroscience Laboratory of Seville University. In 1998 he was appointed as director of the Division of Neurosciences and of the Phenotype Research Center of Pablo de Olavide University (Seville). He is interested in the functional states of neural circuits underlying learning and memory processes in mammals.
